A night of gypsy magic

GABBY YOUNG & OTHER ANIMALS:

Fresh from selling out the Union Chapel to over 500 people- this innovative, exciting 7 piece bring together gypsy, folk, rock and jazz to create a melting pot of highly energetic, catchy, dramatic songs.

"As the stage filled with a backing band that wouldn't be out of place in a jazz brunch (trumpets, double bass and all). Just to keep it interesting, there was also an accordian filling the room with the sound of a busker on Le Metro. If that all sounds wacky, it's extremely pleasing to say that the music wasn't. It was just really good. Beyond good use of all the instruments on stage, the most important aspect was Gabby Young herself who can really, really sing and when combined with the amazing venue provided and awe-inspiring set.

Just because someone can sing and lets themselves go a bit doesn't mean you should just throw the name Jeff Buckley at the page, but this time it feels well deserved. Add in Muse's trick of bringing songs to a cacophanous conclusion, red hair being tossed around whilst accordians are mashed that left listeners feeling thoroughly exhausted and from the raucous approval it left them quite delighted as well. Recommended." Andrew Revell, Disposable Media

ALEJANDRO TOLEDO & THE MAGIC TOMBOLINOS:
London-based band "Alejandro Toledo and the Magic Tombolinos" is a six-piece group which is currently conquering the UK. The band is made up of travelling musicians from different parts of the globe (Argentina, France, Australia, Greece, UK, Italy), who bring together their backgrounds and experiences in a celebration of music with no regional boundaries.

Led by the Alejandro Toledo (Fanfare Ciocarlia student; PhD in Balkan Gypsy Saxophone Performance), this high energy band stylishly serves up the most blaring parties with their innovative and intricate gypsy music.
""Alejandro and his Magic Tombolinos burst on to London's thriving Gypsy/Balkan music scene at the end of 2007 and arrived with something of a bang"
Gina Boreham for the Vortex Club

MAGIC LANTERN:
Magic Lantern began life as a duo combining the raw mexican vocal and guitar talents of Sebastian Esquriatza and the antipodian wise cracks of Jamie 'Wise crack' Doe. Due to technical difficulties (seb's hair fell out and he couldn't stand the idea of appearing next to the hairstute Jamie 'mullet' Doe) Jamie has carried on the Magic Lantern as a solo project. Whilst technically a singer/songwriter, the papers refer to him more as an alchemist who fuses all the best bits of folk, blues, reggae and jazz into a unique, warm sound.

Having been in Bristol UK for the past three years doing a politics and philosophy degree and having garnered an enthusiastic following there, Jamie's now moved to London and put a band behind the tunes. The band opens up a new chapter in the Magic Lantern story, with a trio of amazing jazz musicans and one fine classical cellist helping to bring out all the flavours the Lantern has to offer. Now part the 'Out Through an Earhole collective', we hope to be running some residencies in and around London. Keep your ears to the ground, the Lantern's shining bright....

MOSS & JO:
They have been described as all of the following: Free Folk, Acoustic Funk, Experimental Melodic Philosophical Mystical Duet , using voices, guitar, carbon fibre cello and drums whenever possible. Moss & Jo met at the tender age of 8. At the time they were polar opposites, Moss the beautiful dancing pop princess from a very liberal upbringing, Jo the cynical rocker & classical cellist raised by a very strict grandmother. Over time they grew more alike, taking little bits from each other and from their surrounding worlds. They saw the transition from childhood, through the turbulent teenage days into early adulthood.

Jo spent every waking hour playing the cello, finding ways of incorporating it into every genre possible, and Moss sent herself to the extremes of existence through experimental theatre and movement.Jo met the Queen, Moss bumped into God. They travelled the world together and apart, furthering their skills in music, dance, theatre and love, and finally came together with a vow of commitment (to each other and to the quest of making music from the heart) early in 2003. Since then they have played to many a crowd, from smoky bars to swanky parties, to one person or to hundreds, always giving a bit of joy to whoever has their ears open.
