The Gallery: Bank Holiday Special
Bank Holiday madness has arrived. Time does indeed fly by when you are having fun and fun a plenty is the order of the day at The Gallery on Friday 22nd August as we get the August Bank Holiday weekend off to a massive start with a line-up worthy of any festival arena!! Leading the charge is a man who helped set us on our way earlier this year at our new home here at Ministry of Sound by not only rocking the Box to its very foundations with a trademark killer of a set, but gave it the thumbs up and vowed to continue his long and very important love affair with The Gallery by returning as often as possible. This Friday welcomes back Mr Paul Oakenfold of course! The original man of trance and a very long term friend of The Gallery; Paul has recently seen a return to his original and first love that of DJing on a larger scale than in recent time. The result has been an inevitable move back up the Top 100 rankings and the mass appreciation that this legend of the scene has deservedly held for so long. With the re-launch of his Perfecto label – which gave us so many seminal anthems in its time – and a bevy of new artists and producers in its ranks; Paul will be leading The Gallery’s mammoth trance line-up providing headline action and a watchful eye over the young whipper snappers lucky enough to share the booth with him.
Menno de Jong has risen through the ranks as the boy wonder of the trance scene debuting at 72 in 2006 before rising 10 places to 62 a year later in the DJ Mag top 100, he is also ranked at No. 10 in Trance Addict’s annual top 100 Trance DJs poll. One of the first to embrace the internet radio and podcasting phenomenon, Menno launched his Intuition Radio show in 2005. The weekly episodes rapidly became required listening for the internet’s trance-hungry hoards. A regular at clubs and events such as Godskitchen, Gatecrasher, Creamfields, Trance Energy, Sensation White, Mysteryland, Amnesia Ibiza, Love Parade, Berlin, The Gaudi Arena in Moscow and WMC in Miami; he is truly one DJ to be heard sooner rather than later as the demand for his faultless productions and epic sets grows. Matt Hardwick and his full on trance sound is an ever welcome and popular visitor to us and he joins this killer trance line-up of the back of a typically mammoth summer not only launching his brand new record label but having toured worldwide and even found time to get in on the action at a bevy of leading festivals. It’s only a hunch but last year’s position of 48 in the DJmag poll may well change this year as he continues to march onwards and upwards proving at the end of the day good music is what rocks! The Gallery’s own residents Gavyn Mytchel, who will be providing the perfect warm up as ever and The Viceroy, providing the full on trance finale, round off the Box in style.
Over in The Bar The Gallery takes a step back in time to a real moment in dance music history and is not to be missed as Oakie reassemblies his Spectrumnight for a very special reunion. Spectrum was the product of Oakenfold’s infamous trip to Ibiza back in 1987 when he, Danny Rampling and Nicky Holloway all came back to London to spread the Balearic gospel and so Spectrum was born. Tonight’s backroom party showcases some of the sounds that made Spectrum such an influential event and in Lisa Loud, Trevor Fung and Steve Lee – Oakie welcomes back some of the big jocks of that era who’re still busy on dancefloors around the globe today. Meanwhile, Reminsce host the Baby Box with their sound and choice of DJs getting to showcase their stuff, whilst the Lounge continues to throw some great parties in its surroundings with this week’s honours being given to Classique who make the journey southwards to do their thing
