DJ Irwan is one of Holland’s, Europe’s and even Asia’s best eclectic DJ’s.
He was born on June 26th, 1980 in Amstelveen. At the age of 15 he started his career as a DJ at the Asian Parties in the Roxy, which at that time was one of the best-known clubs in Holland.
Irwan is one of the pioneers in the Dutch DJ-scene when it comes to the style of playing: Pure r&b and hiphop, mashed up with dance, disco, pop and even rock, bringing it all together in one energetic mix. Nowadays this style is often referred to as “urban eclectic”.
When in Holland, he can be found in the hottest clubs and events such as Expornstar, Jimmy Woo, 013, Noa, G.L.A.M., Sneakerz, Nope Is Dope, etc. Furthermore, on the major (dance-)festivals and urban-events throughout the country Irwan is often added to the DJ line-up: All the editions of the FFWD Heineken Dance Parade in Rotterdam (one of Europe’s biggest street-parades), Irwan was a headliner for the urban-area at Dance Valley three times (2003, 2004 & 2006) and he showed his skills during Innercity 2003 and Ambassador in the Amsterdam Arena soccer stadium. Of course this year he was also present at several festivals: Solar festival and at Mysteryland festival, where he had not one but two sets.
DJ Irwan is frequently booked for international gigs, where cities as Barcelona, Ibiza, Lloret de Mar, London, Copenhagen and Zurich are among his favourite hotspots. During the summer of 2006 he even earned himself a residency in one of Spain’s most prestigious clubs: Pacha Barcelona. Irwan has regularly (every 2 to 3 months) gigs in the famous ZOUK club in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Also at his country of origin, Indonesia, Irwan has a big name. He often plays at Jakarta’s hottest clubs such as Embassy, Dragonfly and Blowfish. 2007 was one international summer tour trough Curacao (Netherlands Antilles), Greece, Spain, Belgium, Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia.
Besides being a DJ, Irwan is also a very talented singer. It’s a well-known fact that he is one of the few DJ’s (if not the only one) who adds some lyrical flavours to his set, which creates a unique vibe: spinning, scratching and singing, while bringing the crowd to higher levels.
As recognition of his great achievements DJ Irwan has been nominated several times in the past years for both a MOBO (Music of Black Origin) Award and a Dutch Urban Award in the category Best Urban DJ. Thus, he may call himself one of the best urban/eclectic DJ’s of Holland, and Europe as well.
