'MADE IN MANCHESTER’
DJ Paulette was made in Manchester. The youngest of 8, Paulette was a musical magpie who started her record collection, aged 7, by cherry picking (ok, stealing from!) the coveted collections of each member of her family and proudly cites everything from David Bowie to D-Train and Diana Ross, from Herbie Hancock to Human League, from Earth Wind and Fire to Ella Fitzgerald and much more besides as the discs and influences that eventually made her start paying for her own (now larger than all her family’s collections put together) record collection. At the tender age of 12 she caught the vinyl bug after buying her first records (on import of course) at a specialist shop called ‘Spin Inn’, in Manchester and this was the start of a wonderful and very real romance that continues today.
A year later, dressed in a trendy but horrendous 80’s jumpsuit, she got her first taste of clubbing at Cagney’s in Liverpool (a cool underground club for post punks, New Romantics and soul boys) and from thereon in she was hooked! Fashion, music and clubs were the way forward!
After years of clubbing, modelling and dancing, Paulette played her first gig at the super successful No 1 Club in Manchester. News travelled fast and she soon scored her first DJ residency at the legendary Hacienda (the 24 hour partying home to Mike Pickering, Graeme Park and Laurent Garnier amongst others) at the Flesh night (1991-1995). As her reputation grew she was headhunted and moved to London to take up residencies at the also legendary Garage Club at Heaven and the Zap Club in Brighton (home to Carl Cox). Since then Paulette has taken the world by storm with regular spots in London at the Ministry Of Sound, Heaven, The Cross, Fabric, Neighbourhood and Pacha; by winning a gold disc for her publicity work as Head of Dance Music PR at Mercury Records, by simultaneously working the publicity launch for Defected Records and being the Promotions Director for Azuli Records (1999-2000), by DJ’ing non-stop across the globe, by relocating from London to Paris (Dec 2004), by finding new residencies at Le Redlight, moving to the Mix Club 7 months later (October 2005); working as the Consultante Internationale for Radio FG in Paris and through it all, tirelessly and passionately spreading her love of music – both in front of and behind the scenes in the dance music world.
On the decks and in the clubs, she demonstrates an uncanny ability to understand exactly what it takes to entertain people no matter whether she's rocking you with jacking electro house or seducing with you with a sweet, soulful selection. An entertainer in front of the decks and a ‘fixer’ behind the scenes, Paulette is, by her own definition, passionate about dance music and a ‘shameless music junkie’. The sets she plays are the same as the music she collects - always funky, sexy, dynamic, dirty, different, groovy and nasty with the energy of an atomic bomb – a bomb that is always delivered with her trademark, ten thousand megawatt smile!
