Kinky Malinki Miami 2008
At Blue, Sat 29th March

Looked forwards to almost as much as the Hollyoaks babe Calendar, Kinky Malinki make their annual pilgrimage to the sunny climes of the epicentre of all things musical in March – Miami.

Whilst some of the locals might look like buffed clones with blazing teeth, all silicone and no soul, there’s still no denying the WMC is as fundamental to the music industry as, well, having ears to listen to music. In the land of extremes it’s refreshing – almost as much as a dip in that frothing blue water – to see Kinky Malinki keeping matters real. Whilst it’s easy to get lost in the morass of endless parties, Mojitos, bulbous chests and sunshine, Miami still has an elusive magic that nowhere else can replicate, where deals are done, sun is shone and people party on.

And for Kinky Malinki it’s a hugely important date in their calendar. Already buoyed with the building momentum building behind their 10th anniversary year, Miami really heralds the start of the club’s most exciting season, and this year, with a season in Ibiza close to being sealed and 10th anniversary tour also to be announced, a whole decade’s worth of partying to be enjoyed over many glorious months. Miami in 2008 is the first point of a long summer which will take in East Coast USA, The White Isle, a global tour, the ADE and finally, the 10th birthday party its merry self. But back to the business at hand.

George Morel headlines, an American who has been right at the heart of house’s complex evolutions over the last fifteen years. Starting off on seminal label Strictly Rhythm in the early nineties, he was responsible for some of the freshest cuts on the New York garage scene, and as he racked up more and more gigs his name became attached to the house scene and has never really let go. Later in his illustrious career he became embroiled in the rolling and percussive elements of tribal house, producing one of the scene’s biggest hits, ‘It’s True (the Faggot Is You).

Then there’s fellow State side compatriots Groove Junkies who write, produce, remix and host a syndicated radio show. Oh, and they DJ pretty good too. Evan Landes & Parrish Wintersmith, have crafted a style influenced by soul, funk, r&b, jazz, gospel, and Latin rhythms. Pumping grooves, uplifting lyrics, and undeniable hooks are the signature elements that define Groove Junkies sound. Born and raised in New York and Detroit respectively, Landes & Wintersmith have methodically gained support from a legion of fans throughout the global dance community via their consistent quality of work and an unbridled passion for soulful house music.

Peppermint Jam man and KM resident Mark Robinson makes the trip over the pond and will be wowing the Miamians with his superlative spread of house music taking in deep, jackin’ and funked-up excursions.
