ASHLEY THOMAS & HIS BIG BAND

Hailing from Southampton, new Wah Wah 45s signing Ashley Thomas was raised on a diet of diverse music, absorbing the sounds of Stevie Wonder, Prince, Marvin Gaye, David Bowie and Parliament, to name just a few. He started playing drums at an early age, quickly followed by guitar, bass and later, piano. After moving to London to concentrate on becoming a professional musician, various major record/publishing companies seized on his talent for writing addictive songs. However, a broader, more underground approach appealed to his sensibilities. He set about combining the quality of 60s/70s soul/funk with the more contemporary sounds. His music can be characterised by a fusion of classic vocal hooks and syncopated rhythms held together by beautifully crafted song structures.

"When I starting writing songs my benchmark was Steely Dan. They're classic songwriters. I feel like the art of songwriting has been lost somewhat, grooves rule these days, but I consider that only 20% of a song!" All this is adorned by distinguished vocals, which, whether soothing or tearing the roof off, never fail to evoke emotion. His influences have yielded a unique vocal sound that is hard to pigeonhole. As a live artist, whether with a full band or a stripped down acoustic setup, his exceptional performances have led him to support artists such as Omar and Kezia Jones.

Ashley will be performing for the first time with his full live band!! His debut single on Wah Wah 45s, a cover of the Bill Withers nugget 'The Same Love That Made Me Laugh' b/w original composition 'Merry-Go-Round', will be released on Monday July 14th. Upfront copies of the single, as well as all the usual merchandise will be be available from the Wah Wah Shop on the night.

KING KNUT

Producer, DJ, husband, friend. Born by the sea, raised in a fjord.....

Also known as Knut Jonas 5000, King Knut is a self-taught producer/musician/DJ. Born by the sea and raised by arctic wolves deep in a fjord in western Norway, Knut has been involved with everything from country to soul and garage rock. As King Knut he comes with a fresh new sound, mixing frantic hip hop beats with analogue synthesizers and a dash of old skool electro. His music has captured the ears of likeminded musicians and producers worldwide. Knut recently produced a guest mix for Jay Scarlett's Ampsoul Generation on last.fm, remixes for Butti 49 and Modan Garu, and is quickly becoming a name to watch for DJs and music lovers worldwide. Live, King Knut presents an eclectic mix that incorporates all his influences - from psychedelic rock to contemporary r'n'b. There are those that call him the missing link between Black Sabbath and Aaliyah.

From hip hop to acid house; baile funk to Baltimore; country, bluegrass, blues and folk, it all has that pinch of deep soul and that very important and unique King Knut sense of humour. This man has to be seen to be believed!!!

King Knut will be remixing a number of Wah Wah 45s artists in the coming months, including Stac, Hardkandy and Scrimshire.

DJ RYAN HUNN (HOYA:HOYA/SKETCH CITY/FAT CITY, MANCHESTER)

This young man, and Wah Wah favourite, started working for Manchester labels Players and Estate Recordings at the age of 19, and quickly found himself working at gigs for Mr. Scruff and RSL, before being asked to produce the Voxpop 45 Show, and soon, the label itself. Before long the show was brodcasting worldwide on five internet channels and featured guests including Quantic, Mr. Scruff, Andy Votel and many more.

Ryan holds down residencies at Manchester's monthly music / art event Sketch City, and brand new night, Hoya:Hoya, taking over the prestigious last Saturday of the Month slot at the Music Box in Manchester (as vacated by The Unabombers and their Electric Chair night!)
Having come down to that London and knocked our jazz socks off with an incredible set last year (latin, house, hip hop and dubstep were all in the mix!) we had to ask this young fella back for more of the same. Don't sleep!!
