Description

A Store Street Special

Eric Prydz

Eric Prydz is arguably the worlds most in demand house music DJ. In addition, his three labels Mouseville, Pryda and Pryda Friends are brimming with the type of underground releases that sell huge numbers, even in an era where the use of vinyl is said to be on the wane. Each label carries a slightly different sound with the common joining factors between the three being that they must live upto the high standards of Eric himself. Releases on Mouseville (including those under his own Cirez D pseudonym), tend to be harder edged work outs that give a nod to the way in which techno has influenced Eric’s sound. Similarly, Pryda Friends looks to the underground with releases by the likes of Paulo Mojo and Axwell covering the bases between progressive house and Ibizan smash hit. Pryda showcases the housier, melodic side of Eric’s persona with the trademark power basslines and distorted vocals soundtracking the Saturday night of clubbers up and down the country each week.

Think back to Eric’s epic reworking of Pink Floyds on “Positive Education” and you know what type of thing we are talking about it. Work with fellow Swede Steve Angello also follows that trademark Prydz / Swedish House Mafia, sexed up, electronic style. Prydz and Angello’s “Voices” and “Woz Not Woz” put the two friends firmly on the dance music map with huge support from the likes of Pete Tong, Erick Morillo and Switch. That support carries through to the present day with an Eric Prydz DJ set usually greeted by the type of ticket sales frenzy reserved for pop stars. Eric is, of course, kind of a pop star himself. Remember “Call On Me”? How many other people can boast of selling 2.5 million copies of one track and spending six weeks at number 1 in the UK charts? Rather than let the commercial success go to his head, Eric ploughed on with his production work and continues to wow the hordes around Europe every single weekend.

Sander Kleinenberg

Dutch maestro Sander Kleinenberg is another artist with a huge worldwide profile. His DVJ show has few parallels on the modern scene with a spectacular show being created in order to take the clubber on a journey that that pushes the sonic and visual experience beyond that of a normal club environment. Sanders trademark sound is well known for its trippy, percussive melody and atmospheric stabs with tracks like “Lexicon Avenue” standing out as lasting favorite of the progressive house scene. Sander refuses to be pigeon holed however, and his releases of late have seen a funkier, layered sound winning many new fans. This combination of old and new seems to have given Sander a new lease of life and has certainly ensured that he remains a DJ who’s fan base covers all of the world. This will be second time Sander has played at The Warehouse Project and his brilliant DVJ show should prove to be a brilliant moment in the unique confines of Store Street.

Format 3 featuring
Martin Buttrich, Timo Maas and Skin

At the time of writing, this special new project by Martin Buttrich, Timo Maas and Skunk Anansie’s Skin, was being kept very much under wraps by those involved. What we do know, we like the sound off. Two of Europe’s finest production talent in Martin and Timo team up with one of the most powerful and distinctive voices in rock to create a new electronic music project. The trio are currently locked away in a German studio putting the finishing touches to their work and this show at The Warehouse Project will be on of the first times that their sound is aired to public. Check out Martin and Timo’s Myspace for a taste of their current work and hold tight for further Format 3 announcements.
