Description
After a brief hiatus over the summer months the original rudebwoy of northern clubland returns to Sheffield as Detonate take over Plug once more. Kick-starting a blaze of gigs that will continue to divulge their innate understanding of drum n bass, they start how they mean to go on with a line-up that swelters with the heroes of the music's past, present and future.
Headlining is one of dnb's most iconic figures, the superlative DJ Hype. Having been through every turn and truncation the genre has taken since its evolution from hardcore, few have been as influential in the development of the music. Through his superlative productions (the emphatic ‘Super Sharp Shooter' remains a stone cold classic), his Ganja Kru alias and influential Tru Playaz imprint, Hype has been at the epicentre of all that is good and forward thinking about the music. Truly deserving of the status legendary, Detonate welcomes him back for more histrionics.
He's joined by two of the biggest figures on the rise, 1Extra's Bailey and Lynx. Bailey has been the lynchpin in pushing deebee on the BBC's flagship Black music station, utilising the exposure that the digital format provides to fully focus on the qualities that sit at the heartbeat of the music's dexterity. His DJ sets are reflective of this, encompassing each element of the genre. Lynx is the production whiz-kid whose funk fuelled excursions have caused ruckuses in the genre on a host of labels like Soul:R, bingo beats and Digital Soundboy, flitting between each facet of the music's structure. As a DJ he is equally as efficient in bringing the sickness to jungle floors.
Support comes from Detonate resident Transit mafia and the MC trio of IC3, Kemo and E-LL, whilst as ever Detonate continues its support towards the nascent sonics of dubstep with N-Type, rouge State and Deadman all contributing to the bionic rumblings.
