Sonar Unveils Four Big Events
The organisers of Sonar are preparing four very special events
this year, in four different cities, as they aim to make the 2012
experience their best, and most exciting, one yet.
Aside from their boundary-pushing, exceptionally popular and
world renowned Barcelona event, the Sonar team will be pulling
out all the stops in Tokyo, Sao Paolo and Cape Town too, meaning
more fans than ever, from all across the globe, will get a chance
to taste the Sonar Experience for themselves, on four
continents.
First up will Sonar’s first visit to Africa, where, on March 2,
they will team up with Design Indaba, as well as local producers
and talents, and internationally renowned artists like
Modeselektor, Byetone and Brodinski for one of the hottest dance
music events Cape Town has ever seen.
Sonar has been to Japan before, and now returns for its fifth
event there, from 21 to 22 April to present SonarSound Tokyo,
with a line-up filled with top international talent such as
Squarepusher, The Cinematic Orchestra, Vincent Gallo, Clark,
Rustie and the best local talent from today’s thriving Japanese
electronic music scene.
Sonar Sao Paolo is the biggest event Sonar has had outside
Barcelona, and this is going to be an absolute stormer of a show,
in one of the biggest and most exciting dance music cities in the
world. Sonar Sao Paolo, which runs on 11 to 12 May, has a
line-up which reflects that. Aside from the best talent on the
domestic scene, the headline list is a Who’s Who of great names;
Mogwai, Jeff Mills, Squarepusher, Totally Enormous Extinct
Dinosaurs, Za!, Björk, Justice, Alva Noto, Ryuichi Sakamoto,
James Blake, Four Tet and Modeselektor … to name but a few.
All of this comes before the customary three day spectacle in
Barcelona, one the must-see events on the Festival Calendar,
which this year runs from 14 – 16 June, and like Sao Paolo has a
hit-list to make fans drool with anticipation. Featuring in 2012
are Fatboy Slim, Richie Hawtin, Amon Tobin’s The Roots, Deadmau5,
Hot Chip, Modeselektor, James Blake dj, ISAM, Squarepusher,
Nicolas Jaar, Luciano, Azari & III, Jacques Lu Cont, Friendly
Fires, Metronomy, John Talabot, Mouse On Mars, Annie Mac &
guests and showcases from great new comers like Hyperdub,
Brainfeeder and 100% Silk. It will be an awesome
experience.
