Snowbombing - “Cooler than a Slush Puppy and twice the power of a brain freeze”
Not content with boasting one of the most eclectic and unique festival line ups on the burgeoning European scene, showcasing acts from Madness to Foals to Annie Mac, Snowbombing 08 is also blessed by the snow Angel of Mayrhofen bringing you street parties, igloo raves and performances under roof and stars. And the party just keeps getting bigger and the acts keep on coming as the organisers confirm even more talent with three of the biggest and most pioneering artists of the moment to the already ice shattering line up.
Formed from the embers of one the most influential contemporary bands of the modern era Dirty Pretty Things have taken UK indie music to new heights and are now set to bring their indie/punk romanticism to a ravenous and frenzied Snowbombing crowd for the first time. Fronted by the demure guitar craftsmanship of ex Libertine Carl Barat, Dirty Pretty Things have sold out extensive UK tours and rammed a wealth of festival stages from SXSW to Glastonbury. Since the bands incarnation in 2005 the 4 piece have already had a top 10 album and single with “Waterloo to Anywhere” and “Bang, Bang, You’re Dead” respectively. With a second album on the way in 2008 expect new tracks, the ubiquitous indie mosh pit, leather jackets and cigarettes being lit of Sasquatch’s loin cloth.
Man of the moment, confidant of musicians, front cover star, champion of the current new wave of power pop and folk and arguably one of the coolest cats on the music block behind Top Cat of course; Lightspeed Champion aka Dev Hynes formerly of 3 piece garage band Test Icicles is currently one of the most talked about artists plying their trade on the UK music scene. The impeccably dressed fashionista will be melting the ice caps with his warm and fuzzy power pop storytelling suitable for sing song round any log or camp fire. With appearances on Never mind the Buzzcocks, current world tour and the massive success of his first album last January the new IT boy of the current indie scene brings something different and exciting to each gig with impromptu covers, crowd involvement and random guest appearances flowing from Alex Turner to Emmy the Great.
If you like your artists well travelled, passionate, expressive and a connoisseur of the Britpop era Stephen Fretwell is the guitar wielding singer songwriter that you’ve sub consciously been searching for. With delivery and appearance resembling one of his biggest influences, the diminutive Bob Dylan, Stephen Fretwell is a story teller in the oldest sense of word, creatively expressing stories, experiences and passions with his enchanting gravely tongue. Scunthorpe’s finest export spins a mesmeric web of lush guitar playing, spellbinding lyrics and captivating stage presence. This performance is rare treat and slow down in pace to rest the bones from a hard day on the slopes and all the wild parties.
And if this wasn’t enough to melt your icicles, a locker bigger than Davey Jones and full of artists is ready to be cracked open. Foals will be clinking and cracking out their intricate power paced indie, fusing dance and mosh onto one dance floor whilst new electro/rock favourites Does it offend you, yeah! up the electro ante and the need no introduction, the legendary Madness also make their SB debut. With manc artrockers The Whip and the crazy Courteeners also set to stop you in your tracks SB 08 is already shaping up to be the best yet.
Austria’s popular party resort Mayrhofen will host the snowy Snowbombing shenanigans, which take place between March 31st and 6th April 2008, and will again present the season’s most highly anticipated week-long party. Thousands of British snowsports & music enthusiasts will flock for a fiesta that stretches across mountains, streets and nightclubs for a whole week of flurry and fun.
